I came across the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics the other day and along with that EWG’s Skin Deep database. Skin Deep is a database that gives the consumer the power to put their products under the magnifying glas. The reason that Skin Deep was put into existence is, according to their website:
The American government doesn’t require health studies or pre-market testing of the chemicals in personal care products, even though just about everyone is exposed to them.
Isn’t this fact really scary? Even if the European union has banned some chemicals there are still more unknown or harmful chemicals in our products, even those marketed for children.
I have tried some of my products on the database as well as some ingredients, unfortunately I haven’t found those I own. Since the organisation is american I suppose the common products on the American market are easier to find. Such a database is more than welcome to Europe as well as other parts of the world (the whitening products in Asia f.e).
Let me know if you tested and if it was helpful for you!
