Benecos – compact powder and foundation #reviewimage

The compact powder:

+ It’s translucent and light

+ Cheap

– Not that high coverage

The foundation:

+ Covers up

+ Cheap

+ It’s light so it doesn’t enhance all your wrinkles

– Smells rosemary but fortunately only when you apply it

I’m very happy with those too!

Mavala nail polish review

I have now tried out Mavala nail polish which is 5 free! The color is Los Angeles.

And also the combo of Nicosia and Los Angeles.

The overall impression is good!

+ I have a hard time making nail polishes to stay but this one was good!
+ They come in small bottles which is very convenient, they will not dry out and you will probably have time to use it.
+ There are plenty of colors to choose!

– Not so much on the negative side maybe the size of the bottles of you are a high consumer of nail polish but for me it is a pro.
– Strong nail polish smell.

My take on Orphan Black makeup

In a previous post I wrote about the makeup of the lead character of Orphan Black!

image

So the makeup is a smokey eye and eyeshadow and a nude but shimmery lipstick. This is how I did, it’s not as strong because I want it more natural:

image

The organic makeup I used was:
– Benecos foundation
– Benecos powder
Benecos Mascara Maximum Volym
UNE Glimmer lip balm

I totally recommend those products since they are eco-certified. I also used a eye pencil and face stick to complete the look.
//

– Benecos foundation
– Benecos powder
Benecos Mascara Maximum Volym

Petrolatum or Petroleum Jelly or Vaseline- Hazardous or not?

Petrolatum or Petroleum Jelly or Vaseline- Hazardous or not?

This article at huffpost.com states that Petroleum jelly, the main ingredient in Vaseline, is a derivative of oil refining, a byproduct of the oil industry and therefore an unsustainable resource which means it’s not eco-friendly. The ingredient can be found in many cosmetics and products for babies, such as baby oils, skincare and lip balms.

Skin-Deep database provides an overview of the concerns with an overall low to moderate hazard. In the huffpost article the concerns of petrolatum being carcenogenic are mostly linked to the grade of refinement:

Though generally regarded as safe, the components that are removed from the oil during the refining process of petroleum jelly are carcinogenic in some cases.

Petrolatum also creates an illusion of a moisture skin: Petroleum jelly can create the illusion of moisturized, hydrated skin, all the while suffocating your pores. It’s water-repellant and not water-soluble, meaning it merely seals the barrier so that moisture does not leave the skin. So you’re actually drying out your pores by keeping out air and moisture.

Another article at Best Health considers petrolatum non-toxic. In the article you can read that the Environmental Working Group (EWG) says there is a risk of contamination from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), cancer-causing chemicals found in crude oil and its by-products. The article states that the petrolatum used in cosmetics should be higly refined. Of course there are those who claim that petrolatum is the best moisturizer.

Summary:

– Petrolatum is a product of the oil industry and therefore not a sustainable alternative

+ Petrolatum in its higly refined form is considered non-carcenogenic but the EWG recommends a moderate restriction of its use.

– Petrolatum is believed to give the illusion of moist skin while suffocating it

+ Petrolatum is considered by many as the ultimate moisturizer

My conclusion: I definitely avoid petrolatum and rather use products with eco friendly ingredients!
