Bebisvänliga caféer i Uppsala

Min tanke är att lista ett par caféer i centrala Uppsala som passar dig som är föräldraledig. Som jag själv upptäckt nu när jag är föräldraledig är det inte lätt att hitta bra caféer.

När man har en bebis vill man för det första komma in på caféet utan att behöva lyfta vagnen eller behöva hjälp in. Det andra kriteriet är att det finns bra med plats inne på caféet. Sedan behöver man fri tillgång till toalett och helst med skötbord. En barnstol är också bra. Och de här sakerna är det inte många som uppfyller kan jag säga. Så allt detta är kraven för att komma med på listan och i övrigt kommenterar jag hur caféet är.

Katedralkafeet
Caféet ligger vid Uppsala Domkyrka och drivs av Stadsmissionen. Ett extra slag för att man stödjer en god sak. Inget för satanisten dock! Bra fika eller lunch och här hedrar de kaffetåren.

Café Kardemumma
Ligger vid Stadsbiblioteket i centrala Uppsala. Här finns bra fika och lunch av Triller.

Waynes stationen
I Stationsgallerian. Toalett med skötbord finns i gallerian och du får låna nyckeln utan kostnad. Bra utbud för en café lunch och glutenfritt bröd finns.

Dwell City
Här finns både café och srilankesisk lunch- samt middagsbuffé. Tillhör Pingstkyrkan på något sätt, finns i deras lokaler.

Café Au Lait
Åhléns nya café. Deras toalett med skötbord finns i butiken och du får kod till den. Franskt tema på maten och caféet.

Kommentera om du känner ett café som uppfyller dessa kriterier: bra ingång/ramp, god plats inne på caféet, skötbord och barnstol samt att det är i centrala Uppsala. Jag kommer då uppdatera listan.

Babyfriendly cafés in Uppsala

The criterias are to be able to come in without help or carrying up a staircase. Then ofcourse some space inside the café to be able to move around. Also you need to be able to visit the bathroom for free and there has to be a place for changing the baby. A baby/child chair is also a criteria. Simple as it sounds there are not many that make this list, I can telll you.

So because I now have experience being on parental leave with my sweet baby I need to make this list for others in the same situation in central Uppsala.

Katedralkafeet
The café beside the cathedral of Uppsala that is run by Stadsmissionen, a helping organisation of the Swedish church. Nice food for a good cause!

Café Kardemumma
At the library of central Uppsala.

Waynes stationen
In the mall by the station where you can use the mall’s bathrooms for free by asking for the key.

Dwell City
The café has also a buffet with food from Sri Lanka.

Café Au Lait
Åhléns café with French theme. You can access the bathroom with a code from the café.

Comment if you have a café in central Uppsala with these criteria: to be able to enter, good space, changing space and baby chair. I will then update the list!

Isabel Bajart #vintage in Brussels

When traveling I love to visit some second hand and vintage stores. And that’s what I did in Brussels!

One of the stores is Isabelle Bajart vintage store.

The store had really beautiful handpicked items just perfect for a nice gift to yourself. Nice quality clothes and bags and you will find some well known brands as well.

Vintage think twice second hand – Brussels

When traveling it’s really nice to visit second hand shops. This is one shop I visited when in Brussels.

Tan with no sun or bright in the sunlight? #bus

That’s the question. Or not? In what part off the world are you?

Are you living in Europe?
Well then you are targeted for the tanned look. Of course you should be tanned, probably many Europeans have light skin so they have to buy products to get “the right look”. Another option is of course to risk your health by solarium tanning or putting your self on the sunbed just like a biff on the grill waiting to be well done.

And that your health is at risk is well known. You have skin cancer, the most serious. But also wrinkles, lax skin, brown spots, and more. Well, just take a look of a person who tans a lot and you’ll see how their skin age prematurely.

Since some do not want to risk their health along the way there are now other options. The bronzing or tanning products on the market. The results vary and many products are very expensive. The bronzing lotion may just give you a bronzing skin but you separately need to apply a lotion for moisture and another one for sun protection. And the same goes for the face, who could dare use the same products for the body as for the face?

Are you living in Asia?
Or from other parts of the world that the sun shine? Congratulations! Then you are good as you are? Well, no, and that I discovered together with my hubbie when travelling in Asia. Are jaws dropped when we saw the commercials on TV with the beautiful Asian girl that with a sweeping animation got much much lighter. And the products on the selves all for whitening:

And do I need to say how dangerous these products are? Skin cancer, liver damage, kidney damage or poisoning are long-terms effects of the whitening formula. Another way for many is to cover up with gloves and long sleeves so they won’t be exposed to the sun.

My heart weeps for women (especially targeted) from all over the world, why can we not be good as we are?

Är du Europa-bo?
För dig gäller marknadsföringen att du ska vara brun. Många europeér har ljus hud vilket gör att man vänder sig till produkter som ger rätt look i annat fall att sola. Att sola solarium eller alldeles för aggressivt i solen. Trots alla risker som finns som cancer. Men förutom det rynkor, slappare hud eller pigmentfläckar. Observerar du en person som solar mycket ser du tecken på att huden åldras i förtid.

I annat fall det berömda BUS. Här finns det mycket att välja och priserna är oftast höga. Givetvis har dessa produkter endast en funktion, att ge färg, därefter ska du ha en lotion för att ge fukt och en för solskygg. Och självklart får du inte använda samma produkter för ansiktet som på kroppen. Jag tror att världen går under då.

Bor du i Asien?
Ja, men då duger du som du är? Nä, inte riktigt så bra som jag och min man till vår förfaran upptäckte när vi reste i Asien. En hel del whitening produkter:   Givetvis också farliga och kan bla orsaka cancer men även leverskada och förgiftning.  Ett annat sätt är att täcka sig med kläder tom handskar i hettan.

Varför kan vi inte kvinnor (som främst får dessa ideal mot sig) bara duga som vi är?

travelling safe

Summer is probably the most common travelling season so I guess that’s why I would like to share some experiences for travelling safe.

I have experienced pick-pocketing in my travelling company and it’s really a big vacation turn off. Never let pickpocket-thieves ruin your vacation, but I know it’s easy to think this way.

Whenever you are in crowded places in big cities such as London, Paris, Rome there is this risk. When riding the metro in rush hour, there is a good opportunity for someone with light fingers to put his/hers hand in a pocket.

What I do?

• I always have a money belt and I leave my wallet at home. I have with me only important cards such as insurance card and my money card. I put things in pockets but only pockets of jeans type not any loose summer pants-type of pocket. I never use a side pocket for something valuable. I try not to put everything in one place.
• If possible I don’t carry bags at all and if I do they only thing I have in them are tissues, lip gloss and maps. No cards. If I use a belt for a dress and I only can carry a bag I can put the belt over the bag.
• I have copies of my passport on my computer but also with me, as well of papers from my insurance company.
• I leave the most valuable jewels at home!

Sommaren är en fin säsong för resor och därför tänkte jag dela med mig av lite erfarenheter då jag tyvärr har varit med om ficktjuvar i mitt resesällskap (drabbade alltså!).

Stora städer som London, Paris, Rom eller där det samlas mycket folk kan vara ställen där risken blir större. Åker man tunnelbana i rusningstrafik kan det vara så lätt för någon att ta något när de stiger av. Själv står man där och fattar ingenting.

Därför jag har börjat:

• Jag använder en platt midjeväska, lämnar de kort jag inte behöver hemma och tar med Försäkringskassan kort och mina bankkort. Använder inte lösa och vida fickor som det ibland kan vara på sommarkläder.
• Jag använder inte väskor eller iaf så lite som möjligt. Då har jag bara värdelösa saker i som läppglans och karta! Eller om jag har klänning så kan jag ha ett bälte på midjan och då ovanpå väskremarna så sitter det på plats!
• Jag tar med en kopia på pass och har en digitalt också.
• Tar med mig enkla och billiga smycken på resan inte det finaste jag har!

 

Tips för packning – How to pack

Some ideas for travelling, if you want to travel light!

Especially in the summertime you can travel really light. It’s very comfortable even if you just stay at one place the whole time and very practical if you will travel around. I believe to master the packing light degree since I had 8 kilos weight for my journey of 1 month in Asia and f.e the weekend in Paris about 4,5-5 kilos.

I didn’t miss anything during those trips and still could be comfy or fabulous by preference!

A wonderful guide to the art of smart packing is Rick Steve’s and his packing lists. At his site you can also find Joan’s packing list with items that women could bring.

So my advices:

• Bring clothes of a color scale that all will match together well. Think how many days you are going to be away and the outfits you will need to put together and don’t take clothes just in case. Some clothes can be worn in different ways so choose those you can vary!
• Together with different pair of shoes, bags and accessories for the hair or jewelry you can make a dress suit for day or evening depending on how you combine them. So taking an extra pair of shoes can mean you need two dresses less.
• Organizing your bag make things easier, I use plastic bags to divide my luggage contents. F.e adapters and other electronics in one bag.
• Don’t bring items you don’t think you will use less than three times.
• As for cosmetics. Here I surely have an advantage to use just a few products and my bags get lighter! In the summer maybe you don’t need heavy makeup at a warm destination. Pick these items carefully!
• In some places I do completely avoid bags for the risk of pickpockets, I have the flat moneybelt that will be hidden under most garments. Ok, not a dress.

Good luck and have a wonderful trip! And remember to be a conscious consumer even when you are on vacation.

Blommor i Paris

//Konsten att packa lätt!

Med endast åtta kilo i enmånadsresa till Asien och 4,5-5 kilo för en weekend i Paris ser jag mig som lite av ett proffs på att packa lätt. Utan att sakna ngt under resan njuter jag av de lätta stegen som den minimalistiska packningen ger.

Rick Steve’s guide (på engelska) är väldigt bra, på sidan finner du en packlista, packlista för kvinnor och massor av andra tips!

Mina tips för att packa lätt är:

• Packa kläder av en färgskala som du kan kombinera med varandra och tänk igenom tillfällerna och dagarna du är borta. Ta inte med en hög med extra kläder bara utifall. Kan du göra många kombinationer kommer du ha mycket att välja på ändå. Välj de kläder som du kan ha på dig på olika sätt!
• Ta med dig flera skor och assesoarer till exempel väskor, smycken och hårdekorationer. Genom att styla en outfit med andra skor och väska kan den gå från vardagsoutfit till middagsuppklädd.
• Organisera din resväska genom att placera saker i plastpåsar tex för all elektronik.
• Ta inte med dig saker eller plagg som du inte kommer använda minst tre gånger.
• När det gäller smink och produkter så är det en fördel att använda färre produkter som jag. Fundera på makeup, kanske du har en lättare makeup på semestern? Välj innehållet i nessesären med omsorg.
• Till vissa resmål (som Paris, London mm) undviker jag väskor utan använder den platta turistväskan, moneybelt.

Lycka till och ha en trevlig resa. Tänk också på det du får med dig i resväskan hem, konsumera medvetet även på semestern!

Paris and all that #jazz

So in the beginning of June me and my hubbie went to Paris for a romantic getaway weekend and it sure was lovely. We checked out the jazz clubs of the center of Paris, in the area around Notre Damme.

One of the bands was Bconnected in the Jazz club Caveau des Oubliettes (stop St Michel).

A really nice band that you can find on Spotify! They have a lot of albums so you have a lot to enjoy.

Next night we enjoyed a more classic jazz consert and some dancing in the Caveau de la Huchette, also nearby St Michel stop.

People on the dance floor seamed so experienced with dancing and it was really amusing to watch! I would warmly recommend these two clubs for you visiting Paris.

Second hand market in Tanzania

When me and my husband visited Tanzania to visit our friend Erik, he took us to a big second hand market outside of his town of residence, Moshi. The idea of second hand in Tanzania moved my curiosity.

According to our friend the clothes in the market come from organisations as a humanitarian aid. The question is how the clothes then get to be sold to the markets like this? Well, he didn’t know but I’m curious!

Is it part of the aid to give people opportunity to sell the clothes and have a sort of income? Or is it that part of the clothes turn up in wrong places as a result of corruption?

The sad thing is that the second hand clothing that is available nowadays has replaced the textile industry of the country, he said. They made African fabrics that now are made in like Bangladesh.

That doesn’t sound good to me at all! I really don’t think that transporting clothes so far away can be good for the environment. Of course in some situations aid in the form of concrete things like clothes, blankets and food is needed. Many of the organisations I shop second hand from sell the clothes they collect here and use the money for different projects. Or they give the opportunity for people in the area to get clothes for example if they are homeless. Shipping the clothes to other counties is very expensive and from what I know I haven’t seen that they do that.

Hur kommer kläderna ut på marknaden? Är det en del av korruption att kläderna hamnar i fel händer eller är det så att det är tanken att folk utan inkomster ska få möjlighet att tjäna pengar?

Vad jag känner till från second hand butiker i Sverige så verkar de flesta sälja kläderna här för att få pengar till olika projekt. Vissa organisationer ger möjlighet till tex hemlösa eller fattiga att få kläder via deras butiker. Att skicka stora mängder med kläder utomlands borde vara en tämligen dyr historia.
