The meaning of life – Meningen med livet

In your opinion what’s the meaning of life?

Have you ever thought about the meaning of life and the goal of living? Sure you have at some point I believe. I guess most of the time we don’t, we just go on with our life as usual. But then a discussion, an incident can wake the existential thoughts that are essential in being a human. For me at this point it was some incidents that effected the life of friends as well as the passing of my very beloved grandfather, that I already miss so much.

What is the most valuable asset we have?

Life in our society can brutally be summarized as the following: We work so that we can buy more things for ourselves and for our family. So one would say that our income, money, is the most valuable asset. And what can we do with our money? Things, things, things!

Of course money is important. It can make traveling and experiencing possible and lets not forget some of the main things a human needs: food, housing, paying for healthcare and other necessities such as electricity. So I am not underestimating the value of money. But in many societies the main needs for survival are satisfied for many people. So we create more needs that can be representative of a good life. All those needs are handed out to us by marketing and advertisement.

Time is money or something so precious it cannot be measured?

Having a good income sounds nice, right? Imagine you hear that someone you know has a good income. You think, wow they can buy so many more things than I! Or you think, wow now they don’t have to work as much as before, so their income can free time from their life. So they can engage to their hobby or their growing family.

Life cannot be measured by simple facts!

A big beautiful house and two very nice cars in the parking lot. The family has children, they have bicycles and other things, the parents have a good income. They also have some money in the bank. So what does this say? Does it, per se, mean that the family is ultimately happy? Of course, it says that they have possibly a good hand with money and they have monetary assets. Do you know what their life is for real by knowing these facts? Probably not. Yet, we tend to compare ourselves on that level, saying to ourselves that we are unsuccessful or hating them for having such a success.

Life is moments of our precious time.

When someone passes away we cherish the moments we had together and the time we shared. The time we spend together. I will always remember my grandfather for all the moments we had, the things we said to each other, the support we gave one another. The things he had or the house he had are only reminders of those precious moments.

We leave life they same way we arrived: empty handed.

Vad anser du är meningen med livet?

Jag är säker på att du också någon gång har tänkt på vad är meningen med livet. För det mesta rullar allt på och vi tänker inte på dessa frågor. Plötsligt en diskussion eller en händelse väcker våra existentiella tankar. För mig några händelser som påverkat mina vänners liv och även bortgången av min mycket älskade morfar som jag redan saknar mycket.

Vad är det mest värdefulla vi har?

Hur kan man summera våra liv idag? Jag jobbar för att tjäna mer pengar för att köpa flera saker, till mig själv och min familj. Vi måste tjäna pengar. Pengar ger oss saker, saker, saker!

Självklart ger pengar oss möjligheten att ordna med väsentligheter, mat, hem, el och hälsa. Det ska inte underskattas absolut inte. Men för dig som har redan uppfyllt detta. Fylls ditt liv med nya behov? Senaste största tv:n? Exklusiva soffan? Bilen?

Tid är pengar eller tid är något ännu mer värdefullt?

Tänk att någon du kände hade fått större inkomster. Du tänker: oj, vad mycket mer saker hen kan köpa! Eller, oj, vad bra då kan hen gå ner i tid för att spendera tiden med sin familj eller med sin hobby.

Vi mäter våra liv genom enkla fakta.

Ett stort, fint inrett hus, två bilar på parkeringen. Barn med cyklar och mycket annat, föräldrar som tjänar bra. Måttet på lyckan? Knappast. Här fick vi reda på fakta som handlar mest om materiella tillgångar. Tror du nu att du vet allt om familjen? Skulle en liknande beskrivning egentligen säga något om dig själv?

Livet består av stunder med vår värdefulla tid.

När någon går bort finns verkligen tillfälle att fundera kring livet. De minnen man har av den tiden man tillbringat tillsammans är det som fyller tankarna. Jag kommer alltid minnas min morfar för alla goda stunder vi haft, allt vi sa till varandra, allt stöd vi gav varandra. Hans saker eller hus påminner endast om alla dessa stunder vi haft.

Vi lämnar världen på samma sätt som vi kom: med tomma händer.
