Can you feel the rage?

Can you feel the rage against the machine?

Please read this blogpost “Rage against the (sewing) machine” written and pubished by sofiawise.

The blog is about a family of garment workers that as many others in their situation suffer from conditions as a result of their exposure to chemicals and dust. Sofia writes:

Some days ago I was taken to one of the slums of Ahmedabad to interview  parents who bring their children to the SEWA childcare centres.   One of the couples visited happened to be garment workers, just like the majority of the people of their community.

We were told that a big percentage of garment workers suffer from serious pulmonary and cardiac conditions as  a  result of exposure to dangerous chemicals and dust found in textiles.

Inspiration from the people around me…

The inspiration to write music can come from the people around me as well as my one life and experiences.

When my sister took a break from her life and traveled I got very inspired so when I was about to see her again I wrote the song “Homecoming queen“. Ofcourse as always I weave reality together with poetry and imagination, so everything is not literal. One of the verses says:

You’re the homecoming queen, you’re all made of dreams, a dream of leaving everything behind you.

Homecoming queen, recorded in my living room:

// Låten “Homecoming queen” är inspirerat av min syster, när hon gjorde en längre resa. Det som händer runt om, bland människor jag har omkring mig, kan vara en inspirationskälla till låtarna jag skriver. Inspirationskällan vävs ihop med poesiliknande texter och en del fantasi så låten i sig behöver inte spegla verkligheten exakt.

Jag spelade in låten en dag hemma i vardagsrummet och la upp på youtube. Bara så där!

Stories

Storytelling is a way to describe and pass forward our experience and this is often a source of inspiration to my music. Memories, dreams and thoughts weaved in with a melody that can describe a feeling.

When far-away family recently came over to meet their relatives in the Swedish motherland, stories flourished as faraway cousins from the two sides of the Atlantic got together around a long meal.

One side remembered the jars of quaint jello sent over by the American aunts, and the more interesting newspaper wrapping. A now seventy-year-old family member recollected how,  when visiting the relatives in America as a young man, he was asked to fetch some watermelon from the fridge and ended up staring into the guts of the cooler not knowing what he was supposed to look for.

reunitedThe American side shared the…
